Privacy Policy

Effective 28 May 2026.

In short: there are no accounts, the app sets no cookies, your scan history stays on your device, and only the barcode numbers you look up are sent to Open Food Facts.

What we collect

• No account or sign-in, so no names, emails, or passwords.
• Camera: scanning runs entirely on your device. Camera frames are never uploaded. Only the decoded barcode number is sent, to Open Food Facts, to fetch product information.
• Scan history: stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB). It never leaves your device and we cannot see it.
• Theme preference: stored locally in your browser.
• Analytics: we use Vercel Web Analytics, which is privacy-friendly and does not use cookies or collect personally identifying information.
• Error monitoring: if enabled, Sentry may record technical error details (such as the page and a stack trace) to help us fix bugs.

Why

To operate the service, fetch product data, fix bugs, and understand aggregate usage.

Who it is shared with

• Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics).
• Sentry (error monitoring, if enabled).
• Open Food Facts (receives the barcode numbers you look up).

We do not sell your data and do not share it with anyone else.

Retention

Scan history and preferences stay on your device until you clear them (use Clear on the history page, or clear your browser storage). Aggregate analytics and error logs are retained by those providers under their own policies.

Your rights

Because the data we can access is minimal and your history is local, you are in control: clear it any time from the History page. For EU users, the GDPR gives you the right to access your data (Article 15) and to erasure (Article 17). California users have equivalent rights under the CCPA. Children

The service is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
