Terms of Service
Effective 28 May 2026.
These terms govern your use of Scanr (the “service”), operated by the operator (“we”, “us”). By using the service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
Scanr reads a product barcode and shows information retrieved from Open Food Facts, a free community database. The service is free, requires no account, and stores your scan history only on your own device. There are no payments and no refunds.
Not a substitute for the product label
Product information, including ingredients and allergen data, is crowd-sourced and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Always read the actual product packaging. Never rely on the service for decisions about allergies, intolerances, medical conditions, or dietary requirements. If you have a food allergy, check the physical label and contact the manufacturer.
As is and as available
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, uptime, or availability. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error free, or that information is correct. You use the service entirely at your own risk.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for your own conduct and for complying with all laws that apply to you. You agree not to misuse the service or interfere with its operation. Any action or decision you take based on the service is your responsibility alone.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold the operator harmless from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your content, or your breach of these terms. The operator does not indemnify you.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator’s total liability to you is zero dollars, and the operator is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service.
No maintenance or support
The operator does not maintain, update, monitor, or support the service and has no obligation to do so. The service may change, break, or be discontinued at any time without notice and with no liability to you.
Changes, suspension, and termination
The operator may modify, suspend, or terminate the service, in whole or in part, at any time, with or without notice, and with no liability to you.
Third-party data and links
The service relies on Open Food Facts and may link to third-party sites. The operator is not responsible for third-party data, content, services, or links.
Age
The service is intended for a general audience. It does not collect personal information or require an account, so there is no signup or age gate. It is not directed at children.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Victoria, Australia. You waive any objection to jurisdiction and venue there. Where enforceable, you and the operator waive any right to a class action, and disputes will be resolved individually.
Intellectual property and takedowns
The service does not host user-uploaded content. Product data belongs to Open Food Facts and its contributors under the Open Database License. For any intellectual property concern, contact dmca@scanr.app.
General
If any provision of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it. These terms are the entire agreement between you and the operator and supersede any prior understanding. The operator is not liable for events beyond its reasonable control. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
